Default Transfer files in a network

Here is a basic 101 question that I can not find an answer to. I have
completed my home network (XP desktop, Vista laptop). I have stored documents
in my shred folder on the XP machine, and want to transfer them to my Vista
machine. In time I will need to go the other direction as well. I have read
and searched and read there is a way to transer files usung Windows, but no
article says exactly how. I don't want to use e mail or an upload site. Is
there a way to simply send a file from my desk top to my laptop using what
Windows has available? I am sorry for such a basic question, but am tired of
searching in circles. Thanks for your time and help!!!

"Basic" in this group means the BASIC programming language. Ask your question
in an XP-specific group, such as microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web

That was the first verse. Would you like to hear the other 28?

Transfer them right over the network. Do you know haw to map a network drive?
If so do that then the drive on the XP machine will appear in the Vista list of
drives.
You can then just copy between them just as if that mapped drive was right on
the
Vista machine. If you don't know how to map a drive, google for it or look in
Vista Help.
It's easy.

When these files are 'mapped' will you be able to make changes to them on
either of your computers?
Right now, I have 'upstairs documents' on my downstairs computer; I can read
the upstairs file but I cannot change it on the downstairs computer.

Thanks
